Dialogue for tangible and achievable goals

In January 2021, Swiss Fair Trade, amfori, Swiss Textiles and ecos held four open meetings as part of the Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030 program to define common sustainability goals for Swiss stakeholders.

In the dialogue, it became clear that transparency, greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity are key issues for the industry. The goals discussed under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include:

  • SDG 8: Promote fair wages and take immediate and effective action to end forced labor, child labor (by 2025) and sexual harassment.
  • SDG 12: Promote transparency and increase consumers’ awareness of the impact of their purchasing decisions.
  • SDG 13: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero in 2050 and minus 50% by 2030, as well as new business models (e.g. resell models or recycling).
  • SDG 15: Protect biodiversity, reduce waste and promote circular economy.

After the webinars on the four SDGs, a balance sheet will be drawn up and binding goals for the « Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030 » programme will be developed by March. From March to August, these will be discussed with stakeholders and commitments will be obtained from as many actors as possible.
