Guideline for Sustainable Textile Sourcing
A guide to the direct procurement of textiles by Swiss municipalities
The offer
The guide for Swiss municipalities on sustainable textile procurement is a practical tool designed to help municipalities integrate sustainability easily, quickly, and effectively into their direct awards of textile contracts through the negotiated procedure. It was developed as part of the joint engagement “Together for Responsible Procurement” and complements the project’s comprehensive list of criteria.
With an annual procurement volume of over 41 billion CHF, the federal government, cantons, and municipalities in Switzerland have enormous leverage to promote more environmentally friendly and socially just supply chains worldwide. By taking social and environmental criteria into account when awarding contracts, clear incentives are created for a growing supply of sustainable textiles. At the same time, the public sector lives up to its role as a role model and makes a significant contribution to ensuring compliance with environmental and social standards in global supply chains.

The guide was developed by STS with support from the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), commissioned by ecos (Lea Naon, Jenny Wagner, Désirée Gabriel), and in consultation with selected experts.
